Dear colleagues in ministry,
I’m writing to invite you to join us on the 2014 Holy Land tour, and to ask you to tell your congregation about this amazing opportunity. Acadia Divinity College offers an outstanding itinerary that is not the usual tourist trail set of sites, and your guides will be biblical scholars and theologians rather than local tourist guides. We will visit the lands of the Bible and numerous key Biblical places – you can stand where David and Jesus and others stood, and experience the culture and history in a way you just can’t get from books, all while discussing events and faith with our seasoned professors. Previous participants came away feeling educationally enriched but also spiritually refreshed; some even have described it as life altering and world-view changing.
Please take the time to go to our ADC Israel-Palestine Facebook page and “Like” us so you can find out additional information, and also see photos and updates as we post them.

For $300 (US) you can reserve your place on our 2014 tour right now! Prices go up soon (15 Feb), so don’t delay! Simply sign up here. Or you may print off the pdf brochure and send in the registration form to the specified address for the tour company. The basic cost is $4498 US (from Halifax, or $4258US from Toronto). See the website for further price breakdown.
NOTE: the price assumes that you will pay all but the deposit by sending cheques to the company. This saves a 4% surcharge for credit card purchases. Other fees apply as per the information on the brochure.
Why is this tour the best quality for the price?
- We help visitors to understand more about what is happening in the region, by talking with Christians in the area including at Bethlehem Bible College and a school run by Christians for Palestinian children. We also hear a talk by a bishop from the Melkite Greek Catholic Church about his non-violent peace and reconciliation efforts in Israel. We will listen to the point of view of an Israeli settler.
- We will visit museums, which is not normal in pilgrims’ tours, and we will see some of the historic buildings of the Church (church of the Nativity, church of the Holy Sepulcher), and of course visit the Temple mount.
- Other locations include Caesarea Philippi (where Peter declared "You are the Christ, the son of the living God!"), Dan and Beersheba, two key cities taken by Joshua, Nazareth, Peter’s hometown—and possibly his house, Qumran (where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found), and the Dead Sea, where we will stay for a day of rest. See Facebook for a complete list.
- Is it safe? Our tour provider is part of a large company that has been offering tours in this region for more than 35 years, without major incident. With so many tour groups at any time in the land, with an office and employees in the land, and contacts throughout the region, they are aware of the situation in the land at all times. And our safety is key to their business! Please explore sites for further information on safety here and here.
Who are the guides?
This tour is arranged through the Jerusalem Center for Biblical Studies, a subsidiary of a large US company, Educational Opportunities. Dr. Anna Robbins and I be the tour hosts for ADC. Our in-country guide will be Rev. Dr. Lamontte Luker of Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. Dr. Luker recently published a guide book on the Holy Land, if you are looking to get prepared for the trip. I’d be delighted to answer any questions you may have, and I encourage you to review the material and decide to make 2014 the year when you visit the beautiful land of our faith.
NOTE: Due to the circumstances in Egypt, the pre-tour extension there has been cancelled. We will offer an alternative to Jordan as a post tour extension.
