ABOUT DR. JOHN SHOUSE

Dr. John Shouse is a native of Washington, D.C. and has served churches in Texas, Kentucky, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia. Dr. Shouse has also been an adjunct professor at Austin Presbyterian Seminary; adjunct professor of religion at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas; Garret Fellow in Systematic Theology at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky; guest lecturer for the Bible Chair at the University of Texas; and a Visiting Scholar at Fuller Seminary, St. Andrews University, and the Graduate Theological Union. 

Dr. Shouse is the author of An Introduction to Christian Worship. His research interests include the Doctrine of God, particularly in the area of the Trinity, Christology, Christian Worship, Analytic Theology, Theological Method, Narrative Theology – particularly as it is influenced by Dramatic Theory, and Søren Kierkegaard.  

He is active in the professional theater, most recently in Equity productions of William Shakespeare. Dr. Shouse is also a performing illusionist and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians. 

He has written numerous professional papers and publications, been featured speaker and interim pastor at conferences and churches throughout the country,  and since 2008 has served as Lead Pastor at Tiburon Baptist Church in Tiburon, California. He has also served in pulpit supply and interim pastorates.


WHAT ARE THE HAYWARD LECTURES?

The Hayward Lectures is an annual lectureship in theology and related subjects endowed by the late Mrs. C.C. Hayward of Wolfville. Since the lectureship began in 1964, Acadia has welcomed such distinguished guests as Leander Keck, Viktor Frankl, Elton Trueblood, Jaroslav Pelikan, Stephen Neil, John Bright, Martin Marty, Bernhard Anderson, Helmut Koester, James Sanders, Howard Marshall, James Dunn, John Stackhouse, John Collins, N.T. Wright, Christopher Seitz, Emanuel Tov, Stanley Porter, John Webster, and many others.

Parking at Acadia is free after 5:00 pm. Permits may be purchased for $6.00 per day at the Security Office located in the Acadia Student Union Building. There is free parking in the paved parking lot at Crowell Tower near the top of Highland Avenue on the right-hand side going south.
