Professor of Pastoral Care
Full-time Faculty Position
Acadia Divinity College invites applications for a full-time Professor of Pastoral Care.
The Faculty member will serve as the Professor of Pastoral Care in an environment that places students at the centre of the educational experience, equipping them to lead with passion, purpose, skills, and knowledge to serve the mission of the Christian church in the reality of ever-changing cultures. The successful candidate will provide teaching, research, and model excellence in the practice of pastoral care inside and outside the College.
Specifically, the incumbent will train students for the ministry of pastoral care in the contemporary church and society, and contribute more broadly to the practical ministry program of the College. She/he will develop fresh approaches to the teaching and practice of pastoral care appropriate to diverse contexts, including churches and institutions (e.g., health care, corrections, military), business and sports ministries.
The successful candidate will participate in, and contribute to, the life and mission of the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada.
Depending on the qualifications and experience, the successful candidate may be appointed to the Thomas B. McDormand, Charles J. Taylor and Dennis M. Veinotte Chair of Pastoral Care and Counselling (rank to be determined based on educational background and experience). Additionally, in due course, the successful candidate may be appointed to the Directorship of the Charles J. Taylor Centre for Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care.
This is a tenure-track position.
- A completed PhD in a relevant discipline (pastoral care/psychology/counselling/chaplaincy)
- A proven record of excellence in pastoral care or related discipline, teaching, publications, and service
- Proven local church and other ministry experience, including a demonstrated ability to engage the contemporary church through creative approaches to pastoral care
- A relational heart for supporting and equipping Christians to serve the pastoral and missional ministries of the church today
Starting Date: July 1, 2017
Salary: Based on rank, qualifications, and experience

Acadia Divinity College is an evangelical seminary located on the campus of Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada, offering Bachelor of Theology, Master of Divinity, Master of Arts (Theology), and Doctor of Ministry degrees. Courses are taught on the main campus as well as at extension sites in Metro Halifax and New Brunswick.
Acadia Divinity College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada. It is an accredited seminary of the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada. The College is certified by the Canadian Council of Christian Charities.
